Dolny Harmanec is a village 10 km northwestward from Banska Bystrica. The first reference are from 1540 when it was a Banska settlement. Even in 15th century the first iron-works had been established. There is a railway line Banska Bystrica- Diviaky nearby. It is famous becouse it crosses the ridge of the Big Fatra mountains thanks to unbeliavable 22 tunnels (the longest one measures 4,5 km). The Rakytov dell is located nearby. There is a water-runner for wood, which still operates.
